48 hours has passed ...

since my friend, Owen was killed.

I think of how quickly 48 hours passes in each of our lives, how two days quite simply flies by … the mundane and, quite frankly stupid stuff that fills our days, the stuff that we can’t even remember.  And yet, exactly 48 hours ago, my beautiful friend Briana watched her husband being taken from her on their farm.  Sadly, their youngest daughter also looked on.

Owen was only 38 years old,
He was a loving husband, and
An amazing father of 7 daughters all under the age of 15

you read that right …
7 daughters all under the age of 15

This is a man that was truly an inspiration for me.  In fact, a chapter in Buy and Hope (my latest book), was written about Owen and Briana.  I used words in the book like “nicest, most loving people”, “Like a Rock”, “dedicated”, “loyal to their family” to describe them and it was all true.  They are inspirational.

They lived a hard life, they were farmers.  They live in Montana, where it is regularly under 0 degrees (and sometimes even under -20), they have hard winters and yet regardless of the temperature, both of them were always out taking care of their animals.  More than that though, Owen always found time for his kids, the youth at his church, his community.

Owen was … the way we are supposed to be as humans,

giving more than receiving, always thinking of and acting for others, working hard for little direct benefit.  The best way I could describe him … he was ‘selfless’.  As I said above, he was and will always be an inspiration to me.

I have felt so many emotions over the past 48, but right now it is anger … the cleanest words that come to mind … this is bullshit.  I am completely at a loss for words on how to explain this, even to myself.  It was quite simply a crime to have him taken so young.  He will most certainly be missed.

We need to help ...

The outpouring of support in his community and across the internet has been amazing, but it still is not enough.  Briana, who is equally an inspiration to myself and my wife has been left alone.  Their income is gone, their farm’s fate is completely uncertain.

Briana is a survivor … I have NO doubt that she will get through this and be there for her children to guide them during this unthinkable time, but we can help make it a little easier for them while on their journey.

A family friend setup a memorial fund which you can securely donate to help their family.  http://www.gofundme.com/OwenMurnion.  The local bank (Garfield County Bank) in their town has also setup an account that you can mail checks into.

As of this writing, people have generously given over $48,000.00 online … $1,000.00 for every hour he has been gone.  Now $48,000.00 sounds like a lot of money and it is amazing that this much has been collected, but if you think about it … it is pennies compared with what they need to get back on their feet.  They have 7 children, with no future income.

My hope is that we can get the donation up to at least $100,000.00 within 100 hours.  $1,000.00 an hour.  $100,000.00 will get the bank off their back and give them time to figure out what they are going to do on their next leg of this journey.

On this Valentine’s Day, I am hopeful you are able to give (even as little as $5.00 can make a sizable difference), but also PLEASE pass this message on.  Forward it to your friends.  This family doesn’t deserve to suffer after all they’ve had to go through already.

I thank you for your time in reading this, but most of all, please go hug your spouse, hug your kids, hug your parents, hug your friends … life is too short. I keep thinking that if any good comes from this tragic event, it will be that we ALL will be reminded of how important our loved ones are to us.

By the way, for everyone that is able to donate … even if only $1.00 … I will happily give you a FREE e-copy of my book … that Owen and Briana are in.  Just email me a screenshot of your donation at [email protected].

Warmest regards,

Randall Mauro
